For its opening Kritamon Oracle will convene a diverse group of international visual and performing artists and musicians from multiple backgrounds who will present a dense program of interventions and live performances in various indoor and outdoor locations in Marathokampos on the Greek island Samos.

An oracle describes at the same time the event, the message, the person, the place and the magic of cumulating circumstances. In relation to time and space, from ideas of beauty and destruction to future-uncertainty Kritamon Oracle will activate stories as well as envisioned ideas, floating between the actual artistic production and the very sensitive reception of our present time.
Kritamo is a wild succulent plant which grows along the rocky coastlines of the Aegean and thrives in the reach of spume. It is aromatic and rich in Vitamin C. In the same way as Kritamo finds suitable grounds to grow on roughest surfaces, site-specific interventions and performances will emerge in the village of Marathokampos. Hybrid formats of art, interventions, sculptures and new media works will be melted with local discoveries, references to Ancient Greece, Pythagoras‘ mathematics and the flora and fauna of Samos.

Neonreklamen haben auf uns eine starke Anziehungskraft. Dieses kalte Edelgas in Glasröhren scheint eine Metapher für die Großstädte zu sein, für dessen Scheinwelt es Licht abgibt. Immerhin brennt in den Leuchtröhren auch ein Feuer. Obwohl Neonreklamen weitestgehend verschwunden sind, ist Neonlicht trotzdem mit einer melancholischen Stimmung verbunden – mit dem flauen Gefühl einer vergangenen Ära. Dem Neonlicht haftet etwas nostalgisches an. Es ist möglicherweise die Nostalgie der Idee, mit weisender Hand in die Zukunft zu blicken, Nostalgie für die verbrauchte Idee der Technokratie und deren verklärte Vorstellungen.

Christine T und Dompteur M sind zwei Künstler, die die Arbeit mit Neonlicht verbindet, wenn auch auf unterschiedliche Weise. CT versteht ihre Arbeit mit Leuchtröhren als ein Setzen mit Akzenten, ähnlich dem Unterstreichen mit einem Lackstift. DM recycled bzw. restauriert alte Werbeschriften und collagiert seine Aussagen aus verschiedenen ehemaligen Logos.

Das Ausstellungskonzept spiegelt die kulturelle Dynamik von heute. Die kuratorische Verantwortung wird an ein Netz von rund 50 Personen aus dem Umfeld von easy!upstream und Reflektor M verteilt. Diese empfehlen je ein Werk eines Künstlers und organisieren die Bereitstellung des Werkes, indem sie mit dem Künstler in Kontakt treten. Die auswählende Tätigkeit des Kurators wird so auf eine Vielzahl von Perspektiven und Netzwerken verteilt. Dabei ergibt es sich von selbst, dass die ausgewählten Kunstwerke disziplinübergreifend sind. Es treten multiple Verbindungen zwischen Empfehlenden und Künstlern in Erscheinung, welche alle eine gleichwertige Rechtfertigung besitzen und eine kollektive Resolution am Ende des Jahres präsentieren. In der Ausstellung wird sowohl der Name des Künstlers als auch der Name der empfehlenden Person gelistet sein. Ehrliche Empfehlungen, wohlgemeinte Empfehlungen oder strategische Empfehlungen finden sich alle wieder in der Selbstreferenz des Empfehlenden. Die Ausstellung beruht auf dem Rhizomgedanken und auf dem Prinzip von flachen Hierarchien. Bewusst wird eine übergreifende Ordnung negiert und stattdessen ein hyperkulturelles Nebeneinander des Verschiedenen dargestellt, das nicht vom Entweder-oder, sondern vom Sowohl-als-auch bestimmt ist.
